An old favorite
I don’t have many books I have read several times, but for some reason Madeleine L’Engle’s “A Wrinkle in Time” has captured by attention at least half a dozen times — enough that the cover has detached from the pages.
For that reason, it claims the title of my favorite book.
The story focuses on Meg Murry, her younger brother Charles Wallace and Calvin, a boy Meg goes to school with. Meg and Charles Wallace’s scientist father has been missing for years.
Characters Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Which soon teach the children why: He traveled to another dimension through a wrinkle in time.
Soon Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Which take the children on an adventure to help rescue Mr. Murry. The chapter I like most is toward the story’s end, when the children travel to a planet where everyone is controlled by a huge brain that synchronizes their motions.
It’s a lovely story that has, for some reason, captured by attention throughout the years.
For Christmas a few years ago, my mom gave me a VHS copy of the movie. It doesn’t measure up to the book, so, please, if you’re interested in the story, read the book first.
Writing about it is making me want to pick it up again.
