Books I won’t let go
Dozens of Sweet Valley High books sit in the drawers underneath my waterbed in my childhood home.
My Baby-sitter’s Club books are somewhere in the house, probably stuffed in cardboard boxes in the attic.
When I was a kid, I said I wanted to be buried with them.
I’ve outgrown that desire, but I still can’t part with them.
I tell myself maybe my future daughters would like to read them. My family says they won’t.
Hey, I read my mom’s old Trixie Belden novels.
Maybe I’m cautious about holding on to nostalgic items because, as a child, I was so eager to make a quick buck that I put several of my Care Bears and Rainbow Brite dolls for sale during garage sales. I regretted it later, when the ‘80s toys made a comeback.
What books have you outgrown but can’t leave?

Anything Richard Scarry. I still love those books.
If you change your mind on keeping the books, I have Girl Scouts doing their Silver Award project for the Domestic Violence Center, and we are revamping their library. We would love to give your books a new home.
Could you e-mail me some more information on the Girl Scout project? I’m thinking about putting a plug for it in the blog, if you’d like. My e-mail is arhodebeck@beloitdailynews.com
