Spring Sports Random Thoughts

Hononegah senior pitcher Dustin Meier is one of four aces on the Indians' staff/
We’re getting closer and closer to playoff time for most of our spring sports teams in the stateline.
While spring sports aren’t the most talked about of the three seasons, there are some solid teams in the stateline who could make a huge impact at the end of the month and into early June.
That’s one thing I know (and perhaps the only thing).
The other thing I know is that with the Beloit Snappers out of town, it gives me a chance to catch up on some of the spring sports happenings.
Here are some other things I know:
The Hononegah baseball team is good — VERY good.
The Indians have four dominant pitchers in Dustin Meier, Ryan Scarpetta, Thom Loomis and Matt Carroll. All four would be aces on any team.
I know the Beloit Memorial baseball team is tough to figure out. While capable of beating anyone at any time, the Purple Knights haven’t shown signs of their offense breaking out anytime soon.
I know Beloit Turner has four of the best hitters in the area. Mike Jacobs, Aaron Jones, Kasey Hallmark and Jordan Conway are all hitting above .500. — .500!!!
I know Brodhead softball pitcher Erika Stampfli is almost unbeatable. She continues to impress for a team that could ride the sophomore a long way in the tournament.
I know Ali Goecks and the Beloit Memorial softball team is the real deal. Look out for them at the end of May.
I know the Hononegah softball team deserves just as many accolades as the baseball team. Not favored to win the NIC-10 at the beginning of the season, the Indians find themselves in first place ahead of heavyweights Boylan, Harlem and Guilford.
I know the Beloit Memorial boys track team is heading in the right direction. With such athletes like K.J. Evans and Robert Douglas on the team, it seems only a matter of time before more basketball stars hit the track.
I know Turner’s Courtney Crouse took a big risk by competing in the Beloit Daily News Invitational pole vault competition. After suffering a knee injury, it would have been easy for Crouse to call it a day and wait for regionals/sectionals. But she didn’t and she should be applauded for that.
I know Brodhead track coach Ken Peterson wears a really floppy hat.
I know Tom Polaski will call us with track results every time Hononegah competes.
I know summer is right around the corner, which means things will slow down … way down.
I know this blog is over.
