Brodhead’s Panoske receives college offer
Brodhead sophomore standout J.J. Panoske has formally received an offer to play basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, according to Wissports.net.
The 6-9 sophomore took part in an open gym workout at the high school with coaches from UWGB watching.
Apparently, the workout went well as Panoske received a scholarship offer from the Division I school.
This could be a great step for Panoske, but it’s a step that he shouldn’t jump in to.
The fact remains is that he’s still only a sophomore and hasn’t quite reached his potential yet. Who knows, maybe he’ll grow a couple of more inches and become a 7-footer when he’s a junior or a senior.
By that time, other Division I schools might be chiming in, leaving Panoske with a tough decision, especially if he’s already committed to the Phoenix.
“He is a very nice kid who jumps well and handles the ball well,” said Hugh Roberts, Panoske’s Randolph Boys Club coach to Wissports.net. “He listens and is a hard worker. He is very excited about the offer from Green Bay.”
As he should be. Panoske, who led the Cardinals in scoring at 16 points per game, could be a good fit at Green Bay — a school that loves to gobble up raw big men.
If anyone remembers Rockford Jefferson’s Pat Nelson, they’ll know what I’m talking about.
For any kid to receive a college scholarship when he’s 16-years-old is flattering. Making a decision now while passing up a possible better opportunity in the future could be a mistake.
It’s up to Panoske.
