During a rerun episode of “Wife Swap” last night I witnessed a 5-year-old little girl devoting nearly all her time to preparing for or appearing in beauty pageants. The mother even happily professed that he daughter had been doing pageants since she was 3 months old. Now, Annabelle is going on 6 months and I can’t imagine prepping her for any kind of pageant and I don’t believe Annabelle will ever participate in the pageants like those girls on “Toddlers and Tiaras” do, but I wouldn’t mind seeing her as a Little Miss County. So for the time being I decided to enter her in a small photo contest. It’s only been one day and I am already disappointed in the results — not only because Annabelle is losing, but because of how the voting is set up too. I never realized the winner is chosen by how many people you know. Annabelle currently has 22 votes and is in fifth place. Those votes were provided by myself, my friends and my family. The current winning child, named Ethan, has 70 votes. Apparently Ethan’s parents have spread the word better than I have. Is it really all about the people you know these days? What if Ethan isn’t the cutest baby? I obviously don’t think so. Maybe this is a lesson I needed to learn early. Besides, I don’t need a contest to tell me my baby is the cutest  :)
